AgNi contact material for AC contactor of air conditioner

    In order to meet the new requirements of air conditioning contactors, contact material manufacturers have taken countermeasures: ①Adjust the composition of AgNi contact material and increase the Ni content to 15%-20% to improve the material’s resistance to welding; ②Add some additives that can improve the wettability of AgNi to improve material properties; ③Improve the welding resistance by refining Ni particles through process improvements.

    This article studies the adjustment of AgNi contact material composition and the selection of additives. AgNi contact material with different Ni contents and different additives were prepared into contact rivets of the same specification using the same production process, and simulated tests were conducted on a simulated electrical performance testing machine. The material performance is evaluated by analyzing the mechanical and physical properties, arc energy, welding force, burning loss, and contact appearance after the test of the AgNi contact material.

    In conclusion:

    ① According to the simulated electrical performance experimental results, it can be seen that the higher the Ni content of the AgNi contact material, the better the welding resistance is. Therefore, AgNi contact material with appropriate Ni content need to be selected according to different current levels and electrical endurance requirements. For existing air conditioning contactors with a rated current of about 25A and an electrical endurance requirement of about 100,000 times, AgNi contact material with a Ni content of about 15% can be considered.

    ② AgNi contact material with a Ni content as high as 17%-20% can easily form pores or cracks during the breaking process, which slows down the spread of arcing and leads to multiple arcing, thus accelerating failure and failing to meet the electrical endurance requirements of air-conditioning contactors high demands.

    ③ Adding a trace amount of brittle substance T2 can improve the electrical properties of AgNi contact material.
